Among the very first names considered for the part was Tom Hardy, who’d already been in contention for other superhero movie roles at the time given his memorable work in projects like Inception. Some might say that Hardy dodged a bullet with the way things turned out.įor a moment, it looked like Marvel Studios was looking over all of Hollywood for somebody to take on the titular role of Doctor Strange. Eventually, Joel Kinnaman took over the role and Hardy got his only Oscar nomination for his unending work on The Revenant. That’s just what happened at the start of 2015, a development that led to Hardy expressing public frustration over losing out on a major role like Flagg. As the months went on, it became apparent that Hardy would have to stick to his first commitment and drop out of Suicide Squad. However, complications emerged when Hardy's movie The Revenant went severely overtime in its shooting schedule. Unlike other blockbusters Hardy was in talks for but ended up not appearing in, Hardy actually signed on the dotted line to show up in Suicide Squad. The latter actor would be tasked with playing Rick Flag, the military general in charge of corralling the various supervillains sent on a dangerous mission. immediately put Suicide Squad on everyone’s radar by giving the film an all-star cast headlined by Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, and Tom Hardy. or at least explain just what the Vulture is doing over in Sony's universe.In October 2014, Warner Bros. Perhaps the long-awaited arrival of Morbius can help broaden it. As Hardy pointed out, though, Venom's world needs a bit more development. It seems all but certain that Hardy will get to play Eddie once again, and that a future meetup with Spider-Man isn't out of the question. ![]() Sony has yet to greenlight Venom 3, but the studio also is quite pleased with Let There Be Carnage. Right now, further sequels are up in the air. It also helps that Venom 2 director Andy Serkis recently said Eddie Brock and Spider-Man will have to meet sometime in the future. Whether that will actually happen remains to be seen, but Hardy is interested in the prospect. Under the multiverse, it would be possible to unite the MCU and Sony's Venom universe into one movie. The first season of Disney+'s Loki introduced the concept and set it loose on the franchise, and the ongoing What If.? has revealed all the possibilities it holds. The MCU is going all in on the multiverse for its first post-Infinity Saga era. But at the same time, we will always looking to campaign to play with that with all the brothers and sisters who are out there, do you know what I mean? Whether we can connect the dots, that's up to the constellations, and that's above my pay grade, but we would be remiss not to think about that when we're working on the material. ![]() And do you like what we represent as Venom? Is this established? Once it's established, we then have to continue our Venom-verse. Maybe somebody that belongs in that world first. Yeah, it's really hard because for me and the guys in the Venom-verse, we came together under Sony and that's who we work for, that's who we run with, that's our team, you know? And obviously we just look at it as creatives and say, "Look at all of these things we could play with." But we really have to establish ourselves as somebody that maybe they want to play with. Hardy acknowledged the need to further establish the " Venom-verse," but that it's hard not to consider crossing over when playing in a Marvel world. Speaking with Screen Rant about Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the actor touched upon the multiverse and admitted he would like to explore it in future movies.
